For me, the reasons are varied...

- It's twitchy and finicky

- It's known to break with some driver versions

- It can be a PITA to get running when compiling from source

- It causes a grey OSD when watching recordings

- NVidia has nudged people to stop using it and move any acceleration 
uses to the OpenGL side of the hardware (I know I saw it on the list, 
but I can't find it in the archives at the moment)

IMO, the sooner I can get the dosh for a new system and can get rid of 
the need for xvmc, the better.
