[mythtv-users] mythfrontend hangs with "NVP::OpenFile(): Error, file not found: output.nuv"

I just updated one of my frontends to the latest 0.21-fixes package from
Packman, 0.21-19. The backend is running 0.21-13. Both of these
packages have the same library API version and the same protocol number,
so they should be cross-compatible (I think.)

However, my frontend now hangs when browsing the recording list. I get
the following output:
2008-12-28 00:39:25.893 Connecting to backend server: 192.168.10.7:6543
(try 1 of 5)
2008-12-28 00:39:25.894 Using protocol version 40
2008-12-28 00:39:27.780 NVP: OpenFile() Warning, old player exited
before new ring buffer created.
            RingBuffer will use filename 'output.nuv'.
2008-12-28 00:39:27.780 RemoteFile::openSocket(control socket):
            Could not connect to server "" @ port -1
2008-12-28 00:39:27.781 RemoteFile::openSocket(file data socket):
            Could not connect to server "" @ port -1
2008-12-28 00:39:27.781 RingBuffer::RingBuffer(): Failed to open remote
file (output.nuv)
2008-12-28 00:39:27.781 NVP::OpenFile(): Error, file not found: output.nuv

Googling found another example of the same message, but no solution.
Does anyone know what happened here? The obvious solution would be to
downgrade the frontend back to the old version, but it's no longer
available from Packman, so finding the RPM would be difficult.
