While I do intend to purchase a HVR-2250 as a replacement, once that device is usuable, that day is not today. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it without purchasing a new card?

I had a similar thing happen, but not on a 500 but on 2 pvr150's..What i
did was removed the coax connector and soldered a piece of coax in place
(center of coax to PCB, shield to tuner case)with a male coax
connector.I then used a double female adapter (cable splicer) to connect
the cable line to it... It was pretty easy to repair..
Where the coax exits the tuner i used rtv (let dry real good)to secure
the coax...You could also find some other way to secure the coax, but you
will need some type of strain relief..
