The data rate usually is not high enough (even with HD) for this to
make a difference.

It does sometimes cause a problem in raid5 systems that are not fast
enough (seeks and small writes are a problem in raid5) or do not have
a large enough cache. Tuning the stripe_cache in software raid5 can
eliminate the problem.
