I have deleted my .asoundrc and asound.conf for the moment, ensured my
setitngs are as per Allens suggestions (/dev/dsp but I will try
ALSA:default as well), and rebooted. SPDIF passthough is definitely NOT
checked, nor is the mixer.

When I run speaker test it runs, but I still get NO audio. Should I run
speaker test and play with the alsamixer?

Output from aplay and speaker-test below. I wonder what I am doing wrong
here...... Starting to look like sound is dead on this mb.

$ aplay -L
    Intel ICH5, Intel ICH5
    Default Audio Device
    Intel ICH5, Intel ICH5
    Front speakers
    Intel ICH5, Intel ICH5
    4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers
