Yes, last December I bought a made in China, true no-name MP3/video
player, (no name, as in no identifiable manufacturer name on the case)
from a local PC clone dealer. The player was made up to look like a
2nd generation Apple Nano, set me back some $25 (for 1 GB of storage).

The player I got, like I gather is true for a number of low end video
players uses .amv format for video. A search via Google turned up a
Google solution:

  http://code.google.com/p/amv-codec-tools/

Google does offer a Linux version of a tool that will convert a number
of file formats to .amv ... The program is under the GPL and is
available for download... Okay, so 128 x 128 pixel video is nothing to
write home about, but as I bought this to be primarily an MP3 player,
I'm okay with the video quality...
