Re Books:

Reading Mike Holmes on Homes is really good. Available in Home Depot in 
Canada and probably the US, or online  www.holmesonhomes.com

Well worth it.

Get a copy of your local building and electrical code, especially if you 
are going to do some of the electrical as part of your sweat equity.

Elec wiring is really quite simple, but it does take care. If you can 
build a mythbox from the motherboard, then you can do 
electrical...including the wall boxes etc. It's not hard, but it is 
detailed.

The BE THERE when the inspector checks your work.

I am a lot happier with my work than the crap I tore out and replaced!

And MOST of the problems are in LACK OF PLANNING.
