Those are pretty... Too pretty. I have to wonder how much of the cost
is due to the finish.
Really, why the heck are companies doing this? If I am looking for a
rack mount server case, I couldn't care less if it has an anodized
aluminum finish or a polished piano black case, I want the thing to have
the room for a full ATX or EATX board and a good amount of drive bays
with semi-decent air flow at a minimum.
Blinkins are a bonus, not just because my geek side likes them and finds
them fascinating to watch, but being able to see what a system is doing
at a glance is always a good thing IMO. However, in no way are a lack
of them a deal breaker.
I wanted pretty for the A/V stack in my living room, not for the house
server which sits in my bedroom in a corner. All cases look the same
from a SSH session.
I guess I could blame Apple. They are the first company that I can
recall that released a rack mount server with a brushed metal finish on
the case.
