    Not really. Unix users in general have demanding requirements and
are willing to put up with a some Unixisms to achieve them. In the end,
the level of bother may end up being less.

    I use MythTV because it has features that have been discontinued in
the current generation of Tivos. I am willing to "tinker" to put the 
solution in place but I don't do any sort of gratuitous tinkering.

    The family wouldn't allow excessive tinkering.
