Do these players stream directly from the network share, or via
mythbackend accessing and then streaming from the network share
transparently?

The recorded and storagegroup tables should contain the data required:

recorded.hostname
recorded.basename
recorded.storagegroup

storagegroup.groupname
storagegroup.hostname
storagegroup.dirname
