[mythtv-users] mplayer hwac3, hwdts passthrough, but decode other formats

I have mplayer set up as my default video player using the command:
mplayer -vo xv -ac hwac3,hwdts %s
This works great for videos with ac3 or dts audio streams -- the
streams are properly passed to my receiver over spdif. However, if
the video's audio format is mp3 (or another non ac3 or dts format), I
get no sound. From the command line, I can execute the above command
without the "-ac hwac3,hwdts" option, and mplayer will pass stereo
audio to my receiver over spdif.
My questions is, what single mplayer command will pass through
ac3/dts, but decode other audio formats to stereo (or, even better,
re-encode them as ac3/dts -- I doubt this is possible, though.)?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
