Correct...this wasn't necessarily the case until recent drivers.
There was a bug where the standard 1920x1080 could show only the top
half of the screen stretched to the screen height...that's what it did
on my system...I don't remember offhand when it was fixed.  I'm now
actually using the build-in 1920x1080 rather than the custom modeline
I had.
