You've stated that you want something "better", but what does "better" mean?
Better how?
You said you can already control your card, and dump to a file, so are you
looking for an easier way to schedule recordings, or a way to archive them,
or get program data, or playback functionality, or what?
Personally, I'm not very well versed in what other options exist, but I'm
sure there are loads of FOSS projects out there that will fit your needs.
Try looking into Freevo, xdtv, fftv, gecko, etc.  Be a little more specific
as to what you're looking for, and I'm sure someone will point you in the
right direction.
