Sorry, but you are completely wrong. Perhaps they've decreased the
problem over time, but they certainly never "fixed" it. My set was
manufactured in Feb 2008. It has a low level of banding that I find
acceptable. I can see it in foggy night scene, in snowy scenes, etc.
It doesn't bother me most of the time, so I'm fine with it. It does
kind of suck that it's not perfect though. However, none of the TVs
are perfect. Read the AVS forums and you'll find people complaining
about problems with each brand (clouding, unsharp edges, color
bleeding, or whatever).
It's not perfect, but I love it and have no regrets.
