Awesome -- this is exactly what I was hoping for.  With any luck this
will work on my (fresh, as of an hour ago) Mythbuntu install with
neccessary tweaks.

I was on Knoppmyth for about two weeks trying to get it to work and
even bought the irblaster.info blaster.  Just can't get anything to
work lately!
