None of these things are "fine prints". They are actually pretty basic when
it comes to hooking up any home theatre or theater system. They're not even
a Myth Exclusive Knowledge Set. You will need to learn these things no
matter what type of device you are connecting and no matter what OS you are
working on. You cant just go sticking wires wherever they might fit and
expect us to understand what is wrong with your system when something goes
wrong.
I'll give you this info since I couldn't find a wiki page on it. The
tuner(s) on your PVR-500 is an analog NTSC tuner. It will be obsolete
except for analog cable in Feb of 2009. Since you do not have analog cable
(you have dish) you can forget about using the tuner on the PVR-500 and the
QAM on your ATSC/QAM tuner. I'll now leave you to figure out what all those
terms mean. The sources are plentiful on google for each of those terms.
