The Hauppauge PVR cards have line level baseband audio inputs that are
associated with the composite/S-Video input.

The "MCE" version of the PVRs have RCA connectors for this audio, the
more normal versions have a 3-conductor 1/8" jack for the two-channel
audio input, mine are labeled "line in".

I can't recall if my PVRs came with RCA->1/8" adapters, if they did they
would be sitting in my junk drawer.

You would not want the adapter you speak of, as it would be mixing the
composite video and the baseband audio, not something tha would lead to
any desired result.
