I've seen this as well, and two others:

Sports tournament (best of 5) set for M-F.  One team, in a late game
wins all of M-W.  Network cancels T (which won't be caught without
-today) and F (which will) to some regular programming.

Also likely with coverage of extended news events (Katrina, 9/11...).

But IMO, all are rare enough I think it better to save the resources
in the "usual" case and just add a "Refresh Today's Schedule" item to
a menu somewhere.
