The real problem with the Windows GUI is that there is no way to
"over-ride" it, or even to know for sure what it is doing.

Even if you use a GUI configuration tool with Linux you can examine the
flat text configuration file yourself and make changes.

Linux config files that have been written by a GUI often identify
themselves as such, so you can be aware of possible problems with
editing it directly.

With Linux you have a choice, with Windows you do not, unless you want
to count regedit, one of the worst nightmares on the planet.
