It is less powerful than the typical front-end, though the FAQ sounds a 
bit dated...

It has this now. It can also skip over flagged commercials now.

I'm not sure I understand. Actual reverse playback? Nope, it only 
supports skipping back. But reverse playback doesn't seem to work so hot 
on mythfrontend either.

I believe one of the developers has been working on this.

Perhaps not, but is that important? You can still use it even if all you 
have is a Windows machine. Already built binaries are provided.

There's both. As always, it could be of higher quality and greater 
depth, but the wiki is constantly improving.

True, no native hardware support for anything beyond MPEG1/2, but VLC 
provides on the fly transcoding to MPEG2.

It would be nice if someday MythTV did on the fly transcoding to a 
format the client said it could handle.
