As I noted farther upthread, Spinrite 6 is one of 3 or 4 programs which
triggers the symptom I can't overcome, to wit: when I touch any sector
in a certain range, the motherboard loses track of the host bus adapter
chipset.
Linux, Win2k, Spinrite, and I think Seatools; 2 different motherboards,
of different brands, with (I checked) different southbridges.
