Actually, you can buy a modified, new box from them directly (at least
for DishNetwork). The Echostar VIP-211 is the current single tuner
stb that you'd buy from dish direct, so I'd say that's not obsolete.
It'd be nice if they supported multi-tuner boxes, but they don't. Oh,
well. The only other current dish STB's are their PVR's, which I
obviously don't want.

As to "steering people away from using Myth", I found the following
statement on your provided link: "MythTV/Linux support is therefore
only possible using an intermediate XP/2K box running our software. If
this is a viable solution for your needs please contact us for details
about customizing a network (or other) interface for MythTV." I find
that encouraging. No, it's not as good as a 100% native Linux
solution, but given the absolute lack of other options currently, I
find maintaining a passthrough winblows box no less heinous as using
the proprietary blob nVidia driver.

If there are better options for HD in the US, I'd LOVE to hear it. As
I said, I'm looking to move to HD in the next 4-6 months, so I'm
starting serious research now because I don't think I can live without
Myth ;-)
