Yeah I just mounted the shares on my BE and write directly to them over
gigE.  The BE has like a 20 gig drive in it (crusty PATA).  The unRaid box
has a celeron something cheap on a gigabyte board in it with Promise TX4
sata cards.  It basically doesn't use much juice at all.  I did have to turn
the auto drive spindown off because it was causing issues with the BE
unmounting the share (since it takes about 10 seconds for the share to
become available if the drive has spun down).  I also use slow deletes since
it is reiser and not a local device.

We record 2-6 hours of HD a day over QAM (Sesame Street + at least 2-3 prime
time shows) and rarely have any issues.  We have more issues with SD since
I've just got framegrabber cards and an underpowered BE (P4 1.8ghz, but it's
got 5 PCI slots!)
