I have been running Fedora 8 rc2 since about 3 days after it came out:
a couple of weeks now. It runs nicely. I remember there was something
about pulse, but it got solved so easily I do not remember what the
problem was. It was dealt with by a quick google IIRC. I think I just
removed pulse...not near that machine at present.
The only problem I have at the moment is that lirc is not working
BECAUSE the keys on my remote are sticking! The wireless Logitech DiNovo
keyboard is filling in quite nicely however.
The mythbox has had a brain transplant as part of that upgrade and is
now an Asus P5L-MX with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz CPU. Tonight or
tomorrow I will put powertop on it, and re-compile the kernel to see
whether turning off a bunch of things can reduce the kernel wakeups.
At the same time, I will likely change the kernel Hz from 1000 to 300.
As a backstop, the box is running off an old 13G hard drive, but I have
a parallel install on a 40G...so I will update both the the same level,
and check the backup and transfer the mythconverg database before
commencing.
There *are* major advantages to having the entire OS on a separate drive
from the (video) data. And cron is your friend.
