Do you mean the splash screen or the video screen?  Sounds like you
mean the actual video screen, as the splash screen (which can be
diabled altogether with --no-splash) never stays up for more than a
few seconds.

The xine command line options can be confusing.  The 'q' can only
appear after 'p' which means autoplay.  I use the following:

xine -pqhf %s

...for example.  However, note that that q simply means to quit when
the video ends rather than staying in the ui.  What really confuses me
about what you describe is that, if you quit xine (with the 'q' key or
whatever your .lircrc has mapped to the xine 'Quit' command) I've
never seen xine do anything other than quit altogether.  It sounds as
if you're doing 'Stop' rather than 'Quit'.
