[mythtv-users] MythTV DVD Player vs. Sony StandAlone

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the robustness of the MythTV
internal DVD player (or my internal DVD drive) last night. I was
watching a DVD rented from Netflix using my new standalone Sony DVD
player (upscales to 1080p). On a certain chapter or two, the DVD
player froze and no manner of fast-forwarding would get past the
issue.

I inserted the DVD into my MythTV box and played the entire movie
without pauses or problems. You would think a 3-month old standalone
DVD player would be able to skip bad parts of the DVD or give a read
error or something, but it just froze. It would only continue if I
skipped to the next chapter (losing 10+ minutes of the movie).

MythTV didn't seem to care. Maybe it's the Lite-On DVD-RW in my PC
that's "better" than the DVD player, but I was happy to be able to
watch the entire movie without playback problems.

The only gotcha was that when I inserted the DVD, MythTV said "Failed
to mount /dev/hda" and it let me browse the DVD. When I hit Exit and
navigated to the DVD, Play DVD worked fine. I guess there's a
too-short timeout waiting for DeCSS or something (running MythTV SVN
from atrpms-bleeding).
