Bill,

I have the Eagle Tech silver case also, and thanks to your instructions I've
got the VFD to work right away. Thanks for the post. I am still struggling
to get the remote to work though.

I tried to follow the Firefly setup howto. I have 3 Holtek devices in the
/dev/input directory. Two of them show as events and one as mouse2 . I used
cat on all those devices. For the holtek-keyboard (event3) and for
holtek-keyboard-mouse (mouse2) the fast forward, stop, and top buttons on
the remote don't do anything. The device holtek-mouse (event4) shows some
activity when I press the fast forward buttons on the remote but the output
is very strange. ( I tried to use evx and the navigation buttons on the
remote have a totally different behavior than the numbers or OK buttons. I
don't know which one is the hex character that should be read by lirc)

I assumed that the device I needed is event4 and created a symlink to that
device, that I can point to with lirc. I have installed lirc_i2c, and
changed the hardware.conf and lircd.conf in the /etc/lirc folder. When I run
irw I get the same error as before: the prompt doesn't hang and I don't get
to enter any keys from the remote. I don't know if this is because of lirc
(irw seems to crash lircd) or some problem with the input device.

How did you exactly setup your lirc to listen to the new /dev/input/ione
device (I called mine that, but is simply a symlink to event4). Any help
would be highly appreciated. It drives me crazy that I can't pause or see
the menu guide from the comfort of the couch.

Thanks,

-Dragos
