Keep in mind that 500 GB as specified by the
manufacturer is based on 1000 rather than 1024.  This
makes their storage capacity seem larger than it
really is.  The disk manufacturers say that 500 GB =
500*1000*1000*1000 bytes.

To convert your capacity into what the computer sees
we divide 500,105,250,000 bytes by 1024^3 and this
comes out to: 465.7593 GiB.

Your "missing" 35 gigabytes is explained by this calculation.
