I had some trouble doing it this way when running MFE to play videos 
mounted over SMB via wireless. For some reason, I was getting 
frequent pauses while more data was being read from the backend.

Instead, I set MFE to look in a video directory which is on the local 
hard drive. Then, I use the Finder to copy the video over to the 
laptop. Here's the neat part, though: I can start to watch the video 
immediately; I don't have to wait for it to finish copying. 
Apparently, this few seconds of "read-ahead" is enough to keep things 
running smoothly.
