    If you have an intel based system that you could use for testing,
this would probably give you a good idea of the basic performance
limitations of the wireless network and modern cpus.

    I use a minimac as my main frontend but I don't run MacOSX. I
just run Ubuntu and the normal Linux releases.

    A current core duo mini is more than capable of doing h264 and
1080p. I don't use the spdif output so I can't comment on that. From
my point of view the mini is just another PC.
