I used a serial shell that has the 9 pin on one side and an RJ-45 type
receiver on the other.  Don't remember where I got it from, but they are
readily available.  I had to place a resistor or two inside the 9 pin hood
and supply power, which I just use an old wall wart I had. It has been
awhile so I don't know the exact details of what I put in the shell, but I
know it was not much.  Once that was working, it was just a matter of
configuring LIRC to use a serial port and TX.  That TX part took me awhile
to get working because Suse pre-compiles LIRC with TX disabled.  But once I
got it all working,  I just needed to capture the signals I want/need.



I have an RCA-810 8 device remote that is JP-1 programmable.  I had a REPLAY
unit before, so I just used its codes to run Myth.  All has been working
great for about a year.
