    Yeah actually it looks like I was wrong about that.  If you look at 
the logs and code it says "Copying audio while transcoding video" if the 
output format is MP3, buuuuuut both decoders used by the 
nuppelvideoplayer ignore the "copyaudio" setting.  That's what I get for 
reading the log output but not following the code!

    I'd like to keep the AC3 soundtrack too when I transcode, but I have 
no idea what would be involved in doing that so I can't say what the 
future holds.  I used to have the same problems as you where the final 
externally-transcoded file isn't very seekable even after rebuilding the 
table so I eventually just resorted to using the integrated 
mythtranscode.  Now that I'm recording firewirestreams, I'm starting to 
think it would be easier to try external transcoding again (considering 
the HD stuff I record like Lost is 23.976fps telecined then frame-rate 
doubled to 59.96fps)

    I'll let you know if I have any success myself.
