Brad,

I was having trouble with audio keeping in sync with the video on burned DVDs (made with mythArchive), so I changed my setup to mark commercials but not transcode during captures. I believe that is what forces me to run transcodes as part of the DVD burns.

I have since learned that the audio sync is a problem that is either cured or minimized if I adjust the commercial cuts so they occur on keyframe boundaries, but I haven't changed my recording policies.

If I understand you correctly, I can do the transcodings as part of the capture process and drop them (hopefully) at DVD burn time, with the benefit of speeding up the burn time processing.

Correct?
