Depending on the age of the kids you might want to consider using the
device I used when I commuted to work by train:

Very low power consumption, unlimited resolution, auto stop,
fast-forward and rewind, almost infinite subject material,
multi-language capability, random access, no DRM, very low cost (free).

You can find a large number of these devices at your local library.
