I have purchased a little more than 100 drives total from just about
every manufacturer over the last 10 years and I have come to several
conclusions. The manufacture does not matter, MTFB is completely
meaningless. Most drives if they make it past 3 months will be good
for 3 years as long as keep them in an AC environment and avoid
dropping them. 5 to 10% of all drives will be either DOA or fail
within the first 3 months. Some batches of a drive will fail
prematurely while others of the same model will run for years past the
end of the warranty period. More drives will   have infant mortality
than they did 5 years ago. I believe the reason for this is when
drives were $300US the were tested before shiped and now when they are
under $100US there is no testing step done anymore that is left up to
the consumer...
