As an addendum regarding my experience:

I was in exactly the same boat- 32" TV died, had 2 pvr-150's. Bought an
LCD tv w/HD. I am running with a AMD Sempron 2800+, and just installed a
HD-5500. Same results as you, although I have a Geforce 5200 (AGP). I
just ordered an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ which hopefully will make my system
useable until I can build a new system from the ground up. I suspect
this will become a more common issue as the old TV's burn out, and the
cable companies go digital even more.

I'll report results here when I receive the CPU (by the end of the week)
