You are correct.  I should have clarified that the requirement of working
firewire ports only applies to the US.

I am able to get all channels that I subscribe for over my firewire
connection, but I've been under the impression that I'm the rule, not the
exception.  I'm not an expert on the subject, so I could be wrong.
