Since it sounds like you have basic cable, you should be able to just add a
Clear QAM HD tuner card to get the broadcast network HD feeds  off your
cable.  Your PVR 500 will continue to work just fine for analog SD
channels.  No set top box is required.  12GB  of storage  space is not
required  ( it more like 7-8GB/hr).
