On my two ginormous RAID 5 and RAID 6 MythTV arrays with JFS and no
LVM, I've noticed that once free space per array gets down to very low
levels (say, under 30GB) the odds of intermittent IOBOUND
errors--which I've more or less effectively stamped out under normal
situations--popping up go up. This is presumably due to fragmentation
and the filesystem's inability to find nice big continuous bits of
empty space.
