In the UK, you have no right to copy a DVD period (except if you can claim "fair dealing" (UK version of fair use). 

There is no right to make copies of CDs, either, so all of you with iPods who've rippped your CD collection are criminals in the eyes of the law...

On top of your lack of right to rip a DVD or CD in the first place, the EU has also passed the EU Copyright Directive, which impliments a DMCA-style pro-hibition on circumvention technology.
