The last time I did a full, clean install, I used the RPMs.  At that 
time, it was version 0.20.1-something.  Scanning did not work.  The next 
option for rpms (as I understood it then) was to go to bleeding, which 
is 0.21.  I still wanted to stay with 0.20, so, I downloaded the SVN 
branch of 0.20.0-fixes.

This may be moot *now*, but, reflects the experience I had about 4-5 
weeks ago.
