[mythtv-users] Ahh - Evil xorg and modelines

Damian,
I'm sure you know this but the
Modes "1024x768_60" "1024x768_70" "1024x768_75" "1024x768_85"
"800x600_x" "640x480_y"
...line tells X which of the graphics resolutions to (attempt) to use.
Of the ones it thinks you can use, it lets you cycle through them as
you describe.
Your problem seems to be that X for some reason is saying you can't
use some/all of the modes.
This is probably because it thinks that the monitor/graphics card
won't support them, hence why
we encourage you to use "--logverbose 5" because that tells you what X
is thinking about the resolutions.
The Nvidia drivers are quite clever and let you create a new
resolution WITHOUT a modeline just be specifying XxY_Z
in the Modes line as you have done (for an X by Y resolution at Z
refresh rate). I expect that having Modelines of
the same format might confuse it.
Either way use that --logverbose and we might be able to see what's
going on...i.e. why it's rejecting your choice of resolution.
Cheers
Steve
