Perhaps. But with a decent MUA you can sort the messages into threads,
and not read the ones you don't want to. You can also apply rules so
that if certain words appear in the subject lines, or even the body
text, certain actions can be taken.
You can even elect to have messages that meet certain criteria forwarded
someplace, even including your cell phone.
The point is that *you* control the presentation, not whoever is running
the forum.
Of course it appears that a lot of folks are using web-based mailers
these days, and they are pretty limited.
