Sorry for the late reply. This will show you computer's devices: lspci -v
You should see you sound device, the maker, and the brand. Now type this:
lsmod | grep snd
You should match up the sound card from the first command to the modules
listed. That should give the info needed to modify /etc/modprobe.d/aliases
in Ubuntu. See in my above post, my sound module is snd-via82xx and that is
used in the aliases file.
