Also, anyone considering this must check the various voltages required
for each battery chemistry; there are several, and they're all somewhat
different, w/gelcells being the biggest outlyer (the rest are close
enough together that you can probably get away w/it w/o too much issue).
This is in addition to current limiting.  Michael's case (no bulk-charge
mode) is simplest 'cause the current will be tiny no matter what, though.
