Slightly off-topic but I wanted to mention it.

I use the nut and nut-client packages to support my APC SmartUPS on 
Fedora Core. The software works like a charm and it includes a Windows 
client. I believe an OS-X client is available as well. Although I've 
never tried it with any other brand UPS, the documentation suggests they 
support a bunch of others.
