I've had similar problems with some really bargain basement UPS brands,
like "Cyberpower" and "Belkin."  I won't buy anything but APC or
Tripp-Lite, now.  They eventually pay for themselves because, unlike the
cheaper units, they're designed to have the batteries replaced.
