Well, the aerial is on top of the block of flats and I think has good
reception from the nearest transmitter. (feel free to google maps for
OX28NP as a UK post code if you like!) It doesn't seem to have any bearing
on the weather -- perfect reception no signal, restart, signal fine. Raining
- signal fine.
"if the box is left for a long time" might imply you have a ventilation

Doesn't *feel* hot, mythtv status claims the cpu is running at 40 degree C.
Lots of air around it.
Also look through the mailing lists for problems with recent Nova-T

Well it isn't one of these ones with two inputs if that is what you mean.
