I suspect you are CPU bound.  My Dual core Athlon 64 5400+ with 2GB dual
channel 800 MHz ram with a NVIDIA 6000 series GPU runs at about 70% CPU
with HDTV playback.  

My old system with a P4 2.4 GHZ could hardly do a thing with HDTV
playback.
