Well, I updated SVN today and recompiled.  The mythtv-setup still gives
me that error on exiting, but the mythtv backend seems to work now.

I've double checked everything and I don't know.

So now I am onto crappy picture, which I think may be to signal loss.
I have probably about -10db in splitters (maybe more), so I am off to
try an amplifier.
